Meet our CEO

Stan Holden

Chief Executive Officer

Stan came to Champion EMS in April of 2010 after retiring as the fire chief for Santa Fe County Fire Department.  He previously served in leadership positions with the San Juan County Fire Department, San Juan Regional Medical Center EMS, the town of Bernalillo EMS and Albuquerque EMS, serving the city of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County for 11 years as its Paramedic Director before accepting the Fire Chief position with Santa Fe County.  Stan was the recipient of the prestigious Governor’s Award, the highest honor bestowed upon a New Mexican for public service in EMS.  He was also recognized by the New Mexico State Legislature, the Santa Fe County Commission and the National Association of Counties for his EMS leadership.  Stan’s life has been dedicated to serving others, starting his fire and EMS career as a volunteer firefighter and EMT in his hometown while still in high school.  A graduate of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine Paramedic program in 1977, he was one of the first in New Mexico to be nationally registered as a paramedic by the National Registry of EMTs.  While completing his studies at the University of New Mexico Stan flew fixed wing medical missions for Pres Air and was also instrumental in implementing the earliest rotor-wing EMS missions in San Juan County. Stan has been happily married to Elva, his wife of 33 years and a retired school teacher, and both enjoy time with their 9 grandchildren.

Message From the CEO

2017 is certainly starting off on a great note, CHRISTUS Healthcare has acquired Champion’s second member facility, Good Shepherd Health System and with CHRISTUS’ prior merger with Trinity Mother Frances Healthcare System our other founding member it means Champion EMS is now a wholly owned subsidiary of CHRISTUS Health!  This is great news for east Texas and extremely good news for the communities Champion serves throughout east Texas.  All entities retain the non-profit, 501(c)3 organization designation and which mean we continue our essential emergency medical services mission only now we get to add, ‘extending the healing ministry of Jesus Christ’ to our mission statement!  How awesome is that!  Champion EMS has for years been the one and only consistent EMS provider in east Texas having never abandoned a community we have served; while changing economic pressures have resulted in changes in how we conduct our business including the advent of partnerships with local Emergency Services Districts, cities and counties, Champion EMS continues to serve all the east Texas communities from our inception until today.  In my 40+ years in providing public safety related services to communities large and small I can honestly say I have never been as encouraged about the future of servant related organizations like Champion EMS and Flight for Life.  And so we look anxiously forward to what 2017 will bring us as we now become a small part of a much larger healthcare partner, CHRISTUS, and who knows, perhaps a little purple?
