New Wills Point Base

On Behalf of Trinity Mother Frances Health System, Flight For Life is very happy to announce the program’s expansion of a new base in Wills Point (Van Zandt, County) Texas. Flight for Life 4 was operationally placed in service on 10/26/15. The base is located at the Van Zandt County Regional Airport, located on Hwy 64 North of Canton and South of Wills Point.  The aircraft based at this location is an AirBus H-130 T2, fully equipped at the critical care level to include all advanced diagnostic and procedural therapies that are the standard for Flight For Life to handle any critical patient emergency that we are requested to respond to.

We are very enthusiastic about our new western base location as it will position Flight For Life to provide more timely responses to this portion of Flight For Life’s primary service area, bringing balance to our system with the other bases located approximately 55-60 miles north, south and east of Tyler, Texas. Balancing system need coupled with innovative deployment strategies have helped Trinity Mother Frances Health System and Flight For Life maintain the best economic and response framework for the myriad of communities served. It is paramount for us to position resources in a manner which favors access and appropriate utilization while also giving deference to those time-dependent patients who often benefit most from the rapid critical care services (Trauma, Heart Attack, Stroke, etc.). We are honored to play a role in enhancing the outcomes for those, time-dependent and critical care patients throughout NE Texas, Southern Oklahoma, and Eastern Louisiana.

History

In December of 1985, the Flight For Life air medical program was born. CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances recognized a need for rapid transport, in a critical care environment, of critically ill and injured patients from isolated rural medical facilities and EMS agencies to more tertiary care centers such as Good Shepherd Medical Center and CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Hospital.

Today, Flight For Life transports critically ill and injured patients to Tyler’s busiest Emergency Care Center at Mother Frances Hospital - Tyler, seeing over 65,000 patients per year. Mother Frances Hospital – Tyler, a licensed 404-bed acute care facility that includes a Level II Trauma Center, with 50 ICU beds, and serves as the region’s referral center for Cardiac, Obstetrical, Gynecological, Pediatric and Hyperbaric Oxygen Services.
